Jude, the half brother of Christ warns his audience of the false teachers who had "crept in unawares". False teachers tend to sneak in their false teachings in a crafty manner so that Christians don't detect them. They attack the truth and subvert it for their own selfish ends. Jude called on the Christians to contend or "fight" for the Faith which was once delivered. 

 

False teachers come up with "new revelations" and "new" doctrines, but Jude says the truth of God's Word was once delivered and there is no room for improving it more revelations. To claim new revelations from God is falsehood. We Christians are to uphold and stand for the truth and not be deceived by the claims of false teachers. Jude reminded these false teachers of God's past judgment to the disobedient Israel, rebellious angels and wicked Sodom and Gomorrah. 

 

False teachers despise authority and don't subject themselves under any restraint. False teachers will be judged by God. Like Baalam, their motivation is greed and glory for themselves or self-exaltation. For the false teachers, Jude seemed not to have enough terms to state their ungodly lives. He has no kind words for them but calls them every bad name that is biblically permissible to describe how ungodly and dangerous they are. 

 

Vv. 22 & 23 reminds us that we are to differentiate between those who have been misled by false teachers unintentionally and seek to help them and those who have chosen to believe and practice error knowingly. In our time, false teachers are everywhere. 

 

Jude tells us that we are to continue growing up in the most holy faith and in praying in the Holy Ghost and stay in the love of God as we trust Christ to finish the good work He started in us. He is able to keep us from falling. When we don't continue in these, we open ourselves to deception and falling.
